Sadly Barauni Railway Junction which once used to be an important junction on the map of the Indian Railways has now been reduced from its earlier status of a Terminus Junction to a Roadside station. Recently the Platform No.1 of the Barauni Junction has been shifted from the original Barauni Junction to another place - located at a distance of two kilometres away from the original junction. Since this system of by-pass has been created detention of trains have increased manifold questioning the very utility of this newly created Barauni By-Pass Platform No.1. Trains remain detained at different stations - in North East side right from Lakho, in Western side right from Bachhwara Junction and in Sotuhern side right from Tal Junction and in South East side right from Barahiya. As the newly built Barauni Junction Platform No. 1 is located in a place where there is no population it has proved dangerous for the passengers detraining at this station in evening and night hours. It has proved to be a boon for local criminals.
Almost all the North-East India or Saharsa bound Indian Railway Trains coming from New Delhi or other places is now routed through this newly constructed by-pass - the so called Barauni Junction Platform Number 1 have made the life of railway passengers detraining at Barauni Junction - a hell and made inordinate detention of trains a major problem for the Railways which has proved to be a major bottle-neck in timely running of all those trains passing through Barauni Junction.
The town situated at the bank of the holy river Ganges is connected by a Railway-cum-Road bridge over connecting North Bihar and South Bihar known as Rajendra Setu officially but as Mokama bridge in common.
